All Life Changes trustees are volunteers who give their time free-of-charge.


Polly, is an experienced counsellor and supervisor. She has many years experience as a counsellor, both in private practice and public service, as a supervisor and as coordinator for a number of counselling services.

Polly has MA in Counselling from Reading University.


Philip Meakins is a recently retired GP . He was a partner at the Old Fire Station Surgery, Woolston, for more than 30 years. He had a special interest in care of the elderly, and mental health, having initially trained in Psychiatry. He was responsible for employing the first practice based counsellor in the Southampton area.


Jeremy has spent his working life in executive roles in Motor Engineering, Contract Hire and Coach Travel. He combined this with a great involvement in various neighbourhood and community organisations. These roles have included hands-on as fund-raiser and events organiser, committee roles as treasurer and secretary, and management committee roles in youth work and in a probation hostel.

After retirement and a house move he is now involved in voluntary work in charities involved mainly in sailing and the sea.

Jeremy is married to Polly.


Derek is the trustee with responsibility for Life Changes' financial accounts, and has the challenging job of making sure that the charity can match its financial resources to the growing demands placed on the service. Now retired, Derek's career was with Hampshire Constabulary, with particular focus on the welfare of officers and their families.

Cathy Jones - Trustee, Co-opted

Cathy is very passionate about making a difference to others and has redirected a previous career in finance to add value to others in the Counselling arena.  Cathy is a qualified Counsellor with a First Class BA (Hons) Degree (Accred), adopting the Person-Centred Approach. She is also a qualified Humanistic Supervisor and a Counselling Teacher.

Paul Beard OBE - Trustee, Co-opted

Paul, previously a registered nurse, has significant experience in healthcare and mental health services, having held board level posts in the NHS. He has previously held trustee/director posts in the charity sector, including the Health Advisory Service, as well as being co-director with the Royal College of Nursing - the South east Region. Paul now works as a leadership coach and voluntarily with Cruse Bereavement Care.

Tim Miller - Trustee, Co-opted

Tim moved to Southampton two years ago from London where he worked for twenty years as a school teacher and college lecturer.  He taught both art and design and building craft skills. During his time in education he developed an interest in the emotional welfare of students and the guidance needed for them to be both successful learners and independent thinkers. He has an MA in Community Based Art and the use of Dialogical Aesthetics.
